Dr. Grisham's primary level of expertise is in Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  This was gained with one year of fulltime study under Albert Ellis's associate Maxie C. Maultsby, Jr., M.D. (then at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, now at Howard University in Washington, D.C.).  This type of therapy teaches individuals and couples how to identify and correct distorted, faulty thinking patterns in order to gain more realistic expectations and improve emotional experience.

TRAUMA TREATMENT TECHNIQUES

EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)  Dr. Grisham is trained in both Level I and Level II and has been practicing EMDR since his original training with Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. in 1992.

THOUGHT FIELD THERAPY  Dr. Grisham is also trained in both Level I and Level II and has been practicing Thought Field Therapy since his original training in the mid 90s.

WHEN TO SEEK TRAUMA TREATMENTS

INDICATIONS:  It is a good idea to consider individual trauma treatments when a person is unable to carry out new behaviors and communication techniques.  While wishing to succeed, they may involuntarily experience emotional flooding in certain repetitive situations.  This may be because they have been emotionally (and sometimes physically) traumatized in similar situations.  Trauma treatment techniques can correct this.

QUESTIONS?

DIFFICULT CONCEPTS:  Since trauma and its treatment are complex and difficult to understand, Dr. Grisham gives detailed explanations of these concepts in early history taking sessions with new patients where it is indicated..
